Another greatness to the Kindle

If you are not rockin a Kindle yet, then I would invite you to consider this thought.

If you are the type of person who reads and highlights things or takes notes in the margins then you forget what was highlighted or where you wrote that margin note then the Kindle has a gift for you.

All your margin notes and highlights are recorded, organized, and saved in the cloud for later access and manipulation.

If you have an amazon account then go to https://kindle.amazon.com/your_highlights and log in.  There you will see your notes/highlights and be overjoyed.

In addition, you will be able to see what looks to be highlights from others whom you have shared the book with right there in your notes.  So you can see what your friends are thinking about when they read the book with you!

Oh, and if you want to share your notes with the public you can do that or make them private.  Here are my notes and highlights for the book Almost Christian by Kenda Creasy Dean.

This just saved me ton of time typing in my notes and highlights or manually transferring my notes/highlights to documents saved on my computer (which I have saved over 30 books worth of notes and highlights on my computer which I can now delete!).

Kinda awesome.

Looking for an e-reader?

A year ago I shared my encounter with the generosity of Amazon even though what took place was my fault.

Each year on March 18th, I will continue to post about the greatness of Amazon and recall this story of generosity.

Call it a business model if you would like but this one encounter has sold me as an advocate for Amazon and specifically the Kindle.

It makes me wonder if this one positive encounter can make me an advocate for Amazon/Kindle then what could churches learn from Amazon's emphasis on generosity and hospitality (even when dealing with a person who messed up and it cost Amazon money to remedy my mistake).

Kindle Highlights

So one of the great things about the Kindle is that Amazon can see what books and how often passages are "highlighted". Some might be put off by the "big brother" aspect of this, but I think it is fascinating.

In case you are interested here is the most highlighted passages of all time and the most highlighted books of all time.

And for you Bible junkies, here are the popular highlights in the Bible.

I am sure it goes without saying, but this is only those that have been highlighted on the Kindle.

Amazon Kindle Love

I dropped my kindle. I dropped it in a way that lead to the death of the screen. I dropped it on the corner and the shock waves went through the screen and while it is still readable, it is such a poor quality that it is miserable. Needless to say, I was crushed.

I called Amazon.

I spoke with a woman in Ireland who after looking at my status and warranty and account, she saw that my situation fit within the limits of the one year warranty. She was going to ship a new one and I would have it the next day!

That was the good news.

More good news came when she said that I needed to mail the broken one back and she was sending a prepaid postage to use.

Excellent news.

Finally, she said, I am sorry but we are low in stock on your version so I am going to have to UPGRADE you for free. Will that be a problem?

WILL THAT BE A PROBLEM!!!

I nearly cried. Here I was, broken Kindle and she worked to get me a new one, next day, free postage and then she asked me if if the free upgrade would be a problem for me!

No. No problem at all.

I have been an Amazon fan for some time now. Even if I did not have this experience I still would use Amazon.

But now... Now I am a walking billboard for Amazon.

You need a book? Have you looked at Amazon?
Looking at the Nook or IPad? Those are okay, but I LOVE my Amazon Kindle.

Amazon, I am a fanatic, and each year I will post on this blog the greatness of Amazon and retell this story as a way of thanking you for your wonderful customer service and support.
